Our Board of Directors cares deeply about our shareholders, employees, shoppers, our community, and the healthy continuance of our community cooperative grocery store. We take our responsibility seriously and work hard to represent all of us.

Our board is made up of shareholder-elected volunteers that bring their myriad experiences and strengths to act in an advisory position to support our cooperative community. Even with the best of intentions, with the assistance of consultants, and through scrutinizing our policy governance guidelines, there are occasions when we disagree about how to proceed.

Our board listens to shareholder input and does its best to represent our Co-op, while monitoring the journey to our Ends through executive limitations with our General Manager. Listening to our entire community not only provides us with information, but also leads us to the right questions to ask.
We share our various viewpoints and normally, after much discussion, we agree to disagree, and move forward with the majority viewpoint in order to “speak with one voice.”

Recently, and very sadly, our disagreement led to the resignations of two board members.
Over the last few years, our cooperative community has had numerous traumas and challenges. Even with our dedicated employees, managers, and board members working diligently to move the organization forward into a new physical space, these extreme events have affected us all so deeply it has been difficult for us to process, learn, and heal so that we are able to move forward together.

Last year our Co-op employees voted in union representation with UFCW 1459. We respectfully acknowledge that both union and management ensured that there are policies and procedures to support our employees going forward. No one is above a filed grievance.

Our board has appreciated all of the time and thoughtful contributions made by our recently resigned board members. We will miss their board participation and look forward to their future contributions within our community. We plan to listen well, and within the purview of our roles as servant-leaders of our cooperative community, we will strive to move forward positively and constructively with your help and input. With all of us moving together towards the Ends that we envision for our Co-op, there is no limit to the success that we can achieve
